カレン族はタイ北部からビルマにかけ、主に山岳地帯に居住する民族。
カレン族シルバー（カレンシルバー）はタイ北部の山岳地にあるカレン族の村にて、代々引き継がれてきた伝統的な手法により作られている。
すべてのシルバービーズが手作りで、一つとして同じものは存在せず、それぞれ異なる表情を持つ。
ケシ粒のように小さなビーズひとつひとつにも手仕事により丹念に刻印が打ち込まれている。
カレン族シルバーは実に独創的であり、規格統一されたマスプロダクトのシルバーとは異なる味わいがある。
